The DNA molecule is a polymer of nucleotides. Each nucleotide is composed of a nitrogenous base, a five-carbon sugar (deoxyribose), and a phosphate group. There are four nitrogenous bases in DNA, two purines (adenine and guanine) and two pyrimidines (cytosine and thymine). A DNA molecule is composed of two strands.

WHAT ARE NUCLEOTIDES?
- Nucleotides are monomeric units of nucleic acids such as DNA and RNA. Nucleotides that form the DNA molecule are made up of three components namely: nitrogenous bases (A, C, G, T), phosphate group, and deoxyribose sugar.
- DNA molecule is formed when nucleotides come together to form hydrogen bonds between adjacent nitrogenous bases.
- Adenine pairs with Thymine while Guanine pairs with Cytosine in the DNA molecule via hydrogen bonds.
- However, the double strand of DNA is formed when the sugar and phosphate group bonds with the aid of a bond called phosphodiester bond.
