The causes were a general Greek desire to gain independence from the Ottoman Empire who had been in control of their territory and over their people for quite a long time. The outcomes were that the Greeks won with the First Hellenic Republic being established in 1922 which would later be replaced by the Hellenic Kingdom in 1932.
The reasons were various for international support, from political all the way to cultural and religious. Many believed that it would be a good way to weaken the Ottoman Empire, while others believed that the European world was indefinitely indebted to ancient Greece and that Greece needs help to become great again. Others supported it as a Christian country against the Muslim Ottoman Empire.
