The basic unit of structure and function of all living organisms is the cell. The cell is the fundamental unit of all living things, it is the smallest unit of any living organism.

Further Explanation.

  • A cell is the basic fundamental unit of life. It is the structural and functional unit of all living organisms.
  • A cell is generally a membrane-bound unit that is made up of smaller units known as organelles such as ribosomes, mitochondrion, lysosomes, golgi apparatus, etc.

DNA

  • DNA is a molecule that is found in any cell of a living organism which is the carrier of genetic material of a particular organisms.
  • It is through DNA that genetic information is passed from one organism to another through the process of DNA replication.
  • Additionally, it carries the information that is used to make proteins which performs various functions in living cells.

Mitochondrion

  • This is one of the cell organelle inside a cell. It is referred as  the powerhouse of the cell, as it is where energy to drive all cellular activities is generated through the process known as cellular respiration.
  • Energy is generated in the form of ATP and is either stored for future use or used to drive various cellular functions such as transport, excretion, etc.

Nucleus

  • Nucleus is a type of cellular organelle whose function is to control all the cellular activities undertaken by the cell. Additionally, the nucleus house the DNA which carries the genetic material of an organism.
  • Furthermore, the nucleus also contains nucleolus which is important in the formation of ribosomes, which in turn manufactures proteins.

The basic unit of structure and function in all living organism is cell.

Further Explanation:

Cells are the basic unit of the structure and function as they help in formation of organs and tissues. Organs and tissues makes up the whole body structure of a living organism. This organs and tissues undergo wear and tear and help the organism to grow and vitalize properly. The cell of different origin come together and forms a tissue. This tissue further aggregates to form a organ and organ systems. They have different task which helps them to perform a functions that is helpful in maintaining homeostasis.

Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell. It helps the organism to convert simple sugars into ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) that is the basic form of energy molecule in an organism. This ATP undergoes cleavage of the terminal bond and liberates energy. The energy liberated herewith is used by the organism to carry out a great deal of important vital functions.

DNA is a basic unit of heredity. They are genetic material which gets transferred from one generation to another. An individual born to two people carries their (parents) genetic material. Therefore DNA is termed as the unit of heritance of character or traits.

Nucleus is the functional component of the cell also called as brain of the cell. Nucleus has no direct role in maintaining the structural and functional component.
