Francesco Griffo, also known as Francesco da Bologna, was an Italian punchcutter born in 15th century. He was the typeface designer designer who worked on the first italic types for Aldine Editions. He worked for Aldus Manutius but had a falling out when Manutius had achieved a monopoly in Greek publishing and italic printing with the permission of the Venetian government.
