Since the 1800s and the Industrial Revolution the world has been consuming at a higher rate than ever, helping the industrial revolution consumer-wise.
Cotton, for example, was called for extensively. However, it was extremely hard to clean. A worker could only get one pound of cotton cleaned in a full day of work. This vast desire and scarcity of cotton called for the cotton gin. This helped the farmers clean more cotton than ever. Cotton took over 7/8 of America's exports.
Hope this helps and please give brainliest!!
