The ability to solve novel problems correlates with people's general intelligence scores. The term "novel" here has nothing to do with books, but rather the discussion relates to correlating higher levels of intelligence associated an individual's increased ability to solve different and unusual problems. Novel problems often require deeper knowledge and/or better perception to find or suggest a solution. This can be helpful in areas of trouble shooting, for example debugging computer code.
Novel
According to Kanazawa, high intelligence is directly correlated
to the ability to solve novel problems. He claimed that intelligent people’s preferences
lean towards those that are evolutionarily novel or unusual.
Evolutionarily
novel situations call for critical thinking and reasoning, which generally intelligent
people are better at. According to Kanazawa, liberalism, atheism, and being
nocturnal are signs of intelligence in people.
