The Connecticut Compromise of 1787 in the United States, also known as the Great Compromise, was originated as a result of the conflicts that arose in the creation of the federal legislative bodies. It merged the Virginia Plan that favored population-based representation, and the New Jersey Plan, which listed each state as an equal. Roger Sherman of Connecticut played an important role in building this compromise.
It established a bicameral system: one chamber in favor of the Plan of Virginia, based on the population of the States, named House of Representatives, and the other according to the Plan of New Jersey, by which all the States voted in equality, named Senate.
