Whenever there's a division sign you always TAKE AWAY.

So for the first one you would do 5- -3... Which is 8
This would leave you with the answer x^8

For the second one, I worked out a first:
3- - 1 = 4
So a would be a^4
Then I worked out b:
2- - 3= 5
So b would be b^5

And the final answer to question would be a^2b^5
