Indonesia is home to strong differences in religions when it comes to Aceh and the rest of Indonesia. The Aceh practices a very conservative and strict form of Islam while the rest of Indonesia practices a much more laid back version. Suharto's New Order Regime, which ran from 1965-1998, brought a new train of thought to the country that the Aceh found especially wrong.
