a) To make the denominator same we can multiply and divide the first fraction by 2,
i.e. [tex]\frac{1}{4}\times \frac{2}{2}=\frac{2}{8}[/tex]
Now, Add the Giant fractions by substituting
[tex]\frac{1}{4}+\frac{5}{8}[/tex]
[tex]=\frac{2}{8}+\frac{5}{8}[/tex]
[tex]=\frac{2+5}{8}[/tex]
[tex]=\frac{7}{8}[/tex]
So, [tex]\frac{1}{4}+\frac{5}{8}=\frac{7}{8}[/tex]
b) Two fractions with common denominator is easier to solve as we directly add and subtract the numerator as denominator remain same.
