William Sherman's big victory at Atlanta ensured that Lincoln would be re-elected in 1864. These big victories gave credentials to the policies followed by Lincoln and people started beleiving that the war is nearing its end due to the policies of Lincoln. The general people also beleived that Lincoln would provide a good administration after the war was over. Lincoln was able to get re-elected with 55% of popular votes and 90% of the electoral vote. In reality several general's victories acted in favour of Lincoln and this helped him immensely in getting re-elected in 1864.
