The Radical Republicans demande the civil rights for the Freedmen ensuring them the right to vote. They also started various Reconstruction Acts such as limiting political and voting rights for ex-Confederate civil officials, military officers and soldiers. They also went against President Johnson and attempted to impeach him but failed by 1 vote.
The Radical Republicans, as they called themselves, were a Republic bloc, based mainly in the north of the Union around of the time of the Civil War, which favored immediate abolition of slavery, greater protections of the rights of slaves (including voting rights), and a war with the South to achieve these aims if necessary.
