Because you need a lot of water to water a large area of crops this is an example of wasteful water consumption
Land being plowed exposes the topsoil leaving it to be blown by the wind resulting is soil degradation, the soil that is carried off by the wind can be blown into streams with can result in the sedimentation of the water which is bad to the freshwater and to the marine habitat
the clearing f land can also have an effect on the climate because the gas emissions from the fertilizers that are used on the plants and the manure
from the livestock results in green house
Lastly, the clearing of the land results in habitat destruction for the animals that once inhabited that area
