In a right triangle, one of the two smaller angles,x, is 6 degrees less than twice the other smaller angle,y, what are the measures of the two smaller angles?

a triangle has 3 angles, and when added, they equal 180
a right triangle has 1 angle equal to 90

x = 2y - 6
x + y = 180 - 90

2y - 6 + y = 90
3y - 6 = 90
3y = 90 + 6
3y = 96
y = 96/3
y = 32

x = 2y - 6
x = 2(32) - 6
x = 64 - 6
x = 58

so < x = 58 and < y 32
