Amelia has some money saved before she started saving $2 each week. After 3 weeks, her total savings were $16. How much money had amelia saved at the beginning of the 3 weeks?

2 dollars (3 weeks) = 6 dollars 
16 - 6 = 10
10 was the amount in the beginning
16 = 3x + b
x  = 2
16 = (3)(2) + b
16 = 6 + b
10 = b
Amelia had saved $10 at the beginning of the 3 weeks.
