Respuesta :
The Native Americans were forced to give up their lifestyle and leave their lands to live in poorly made reservation given by the government. They were forced to become domesticated and were given minimal clothes to cover up but some of these clothes and blankets were laced with smallpox.
The Louisiana Purchase had multiple social, cultural and economic effects on the life patterns of the Native American Communities, and sought to change the ways through which they had lived their whole lives. The settlement plans made by two Presidential candidates, Jackson and Thomas Jefferson, reflected the ideologies and their opinions on the ways of Native American life. President Jackson wanted to extend the availability of resources to Native American tribes, by making forests and wild resources accessible, so that their survival was ensured, all the while evolving within the patterns of a modern, democratic and republic societal structure. In a way, he did not wish to alter the cultural and ethnographic patterns of tribal Native Americans. Jefferson on the other hand, proposed for the integration of the Native Americans within the newly constituted urban spaces, which were symbols of modernization.
Further Explanation-
The Louisiana purchase can be cited as one of the examples of diplomatic expansion, that did not condone the use of violent methods to conquer territory. The enlargement of the territory of the United States meant that its citizens could have access to more natural resources, and harness them to improve the economic and financial gains of the country. The purchase also led to considerable social and psychological developments among the Native Americans and the ordinary citizens, who lived in urban spaces This established a dichotomy between the wild spaces of the forest-dwelling communities and the civilized urban spaces of the towns. The efforts of Jackson and Jefferson not only establish their political agenda but also their visions with regard to the resettlement of Native Americans. Jefferson wanted to transform the social and cultural patterns of Native Americans through his Enlightenment program, where he stated that Native Americans would be granted equal status to American citizens when they would accept the modern ways of living, dressing, and culture. However, these ethnocultural changes were not accepted by all Native American Tribes.
