A loaf of bread costs the same as 3 apples. If I buy 3 loaves of bread and 5 apples for £5.60 how much does each item cost?

we can translate the following data given above into a mathematical expression above:

3x + 5y = 5.60
x = 3y
3x + 15x = 5.60
18x = 5.60
x = 0.31 dollars.
