Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivation theory that holds that five categories of human needs govern an individual's behavior. These demands include physiological requirements, safety requirements, love and belonging requirements, esteem requirements, and self-actualization requirements. Maslow's thesis is based on the idea that we are driven by our basic human needs. Furthermore, if some of our most basic requirements are not addressed, we may be unable to advance and meet our other needs. This may explain why we feel "stuck" or unmotivated. Maslow's hierarchy of needs encourages practitioners to think more creatively and strategically. It assists both us and our clients in comprehending career development plans, procedures, goals, and experiences. It provides us with the knowledge we need to identify our interests, skill sets, strengths, and weaknesses.
