There was a time when I was instructed by my management to create a quality check (QC) report for a project without conducting adequate testing, as previously mentioned. The customer demanded on-time delivery as failure to do so would result in late delivery fees. The project has been delayed because of internal issues with insufficient labor. My manager gave me the task of creating and signing a QC report that cleared the project for delivery in order to avoid paying these penalty charges. Any issues should have been fixed on-site during installation and commissioning. It was unethical, though, and it went against my morals.
I approached my management in order to stand up for my morals and to maintain ethical behaviour. The manager was furious at first. But after I persisted, he advised me to speak with the consumer personally because we were already close friends. When we brought up the issue with the client, he was initially very upset but eventually understood our sincerity and let us two more days to finish the quality check and afterwards ship. This allowed us time to make sure the project met the requirements, guaranteed quality, and also helped us keep the customer's trust.
