James Bowie was the ones that took a more heroic stand regarding the defense of the Alamo.
A small group of Texans and Tejanos, led by William Barrett Travis and James Bowie and including Davy Crockett, defended the Alamo. Santa Anna gave them one last chance to surrender before launching his assault on the Alamo.
Because Santa Anna, who had been taken prisoner, reached an agreement with Houston to stop the war, the victory assured the establishment of Texan independence. Mexican troops stationed in San Antonio were given the order to leave in May and to destroy the Alamo's defenses along the way.
