Now , the equation will be

Now , the percentage increase in population is given by the formula

initial population of the city + ( A / 100 ) x  initial population of the city = increase in population of the city

So , on substituting the values in the equation , we get

Percentage increase in population = 117000 + ( A/100 ) x 117000 = 136890

117000 + ( A/100 ) x 117000 = 136890

Subtracting 117000 on both sides of the equation , we get

( A/100 ) x 117000 = 19890

Divide by 117000 on both sides of the equation , we get

A / 100 = 0.17

Multiply by 100 on both sides of the equation , we get

A = 17 %

Therefore , the value of A is 17 %

Hence , The percentage of increase in the population is 17 %
