Here on western coast, the Juan Fuca plate lies here between Continental plates (to the southwest) and the Central American plates (to the east). The Farallon plate split into a number of smaller plates throughout the Oligocene, which is when the Juan Fuca plate developed.
The Cascade volcanoes are the result of melting and magma formation in the mantle brought about by the convergence of a Juan de Fuca plate. The Cascadia trench, in southern Canada, marks the conclusion of the Juan de Fuca plate.
