What is Repression?

Memory repression has been debated, with mainstream psychology holding that true memory repression happens infrequently. Around 1930, American psychologists attempted to study repression in the laboratory. However, psychoanalysts were initially uninterested in laboratory studies of repression and later rejected them. Most psychoanalysts came to the conclusion that such attempts distorted the psychoanalytic idea.
