Jefferson urges the dissolution of the existing government in order to establish a new one that will defend the populace from tyranny. It is their right and duty to overthrow such government and to appoint new guards for their future protection, he claims. "When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing inevitably the same result evinces a design to place them under absolute dictatorship" (Jefferson 216). King, on the other hand, urges for a more peaceful transition of society and government in the "Letter from Birmingham Jail."
