The necessity of CO2 for plants can be easily checked by placing a group of plants in CO2-free conditions. One way would be through gas chambers in which all air is removed and only O2 is injected. In the long run, slower growth should be observed in those plants that do not have CO2 since this molecule is necessary for the production of sugars.
