To find the height and width of each moon, count the vertical squares or horizontal squares that it occupies.

Another easy way to see it, is to enclose each moon in a rectangle and look at the height and width of each rectangle:

For moon A:

It has a height of 12 squares, and a width of 8 squares.

[tex]\frac{\text{Height}}{\text{Width}}=\frac{12}{8}=\frac{3}{2}[/tex]

For moon B:

It has a height of 6 squares and a width of 4 squares.

[tex]\frac{\text{Height}}{\text{Width}}=\frac{6}{4}=\frac{3}{2}[/tex]

For moon C:

It has a height of 3 squares and a width of 2 squares.

[tex]\frac{\text{Height}}{\text{Width}}=\frac{3}{2}[/tex]

For moon D:

It has a height of 4 squares and a width of 6 squares.

[tex]\frac{\text{Height}}{\text{Width}}=\frac{4}{6}=\frac{2}{3}[/tex]

Notice that the proportion Height/Width is the same for moons A, B and C but different from that of moon D. This shows that the moon D is not alike to A, B and C moons, and that three moons are alike from each other.

Remember that two figures are similar if the proportion of corresponding sides is the same.
