The Pythagorean's Theorem
The lengths of the three sides of a right triangle can be related by the Pythagorean formula as follows:
[tex]c^2=a^2+b^2[/tex]
Where c is the hypotenuse and a and b are the legs of the triangle.
The figure shows a right triangle where both legs are given as a = 6 ft and b = 12 ft. Applying the formula:
[tex]\begin{gathered} c^2=6^2+12^2 \\ c^2=36+144 \\ c=\sqrt[]{180} \end{gathered}[/tex]
Approximating to the nearest thousandth:
c = 13.416 ft
