If we have a number X and we multiply it by a power of 10, then:

[tex]x\text{ }\ast\text{ }10^{n\text{ }}=\text{ x followed by n zeros}[/tex]

Example:

x = 7 and we want to multiply it by 1,000

[tex]7\text{ }\ast\text{ 1,000 = 7 }\ast\text{ }10^{3\text{ }}=\text{ 7, 000 (3 zeros, the same quantity of the power)}[/tex]

Another example:

x = 27 and we want to multiply it by 1 million

[tex]27\text{ }\ast\text{ 1,000,000 = 27 }\ast10^{6\text{ }}=\text{ 27,000,000 (6 zeros, the same quantity of power)}[/tex]
