You make a window out of a rectangular pane of glass by surrounding it with a wooden frame that is x inches wide. The pane of glass is 20 inches long and 24 inches wide. The perimeter of the window is 8 2/3 feet. What is the value of x?

Respuesta :

If the wooden frame is x inches wide then the value of x is 2 inches  .

in the question ,

it is given that the length of the pane of the glass = 20 inches

the width of the pane of the glass = 24 inches

the perimeter of the window = [tex]8\frac{2}{3}[/tex] feet = 26/3 feet .

the width of the wooden frame = x inches

length of the glass with the frame = (20+2x) inches

width of the glass with the frame = (24+2x) inches

we have 1 feet = 12 inches

So, 26/3 feet = (26*12)/3 = 104 inches

so the perimeter of the window = 104 inches

we have perimeter = 2( length + width )

104 = 2((20+2x)+(24+2x))

104 = 2(44+4x)

104 = 88 + 8x

8x = 104-88

8x = 16

x =2

Therefore ,If the wooden frame is x inches wide then the value of x is 2 inches  .
