On a tractor, the diameter of the large tire is 5 feet and the diameter of the small tire is 3 feet 9 inches. A sketch is given 5 feet 3 ft 9 in Atoy tractor is made to scale from the actual tractor. On the toy tractor, the diameter of the large tire is 8 inches. What is the diameter, in inches, of the small tire on the toy tractor?

we get that the measure of the tires in inches for the real tractor are:

[tex]5\cdot12=60in,3\cdot12+9=45in[/tex]

so the scale factor is

[tex]\frac{8}{60}=\frac{2}{15}[/tex]

so the small tire on the toy tractor measure:

[tex]\frac{2}{15}\cdot45=6[/tex]
