4) Any attempt would be viewed as a direct act against the United States: As the Americas is viewed as a place of interest for the United States, the US would protect it's places of interests when necessary, whether through expedition or through a declaration of war.

The Monroe Doctrine's usage in Spanish-American war saw to the independence of Cuba from Spanish rule, and the transfer of Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam to the United State's sphere of influence. The Philippines would gain independence in July 4, 1946, while Puerto Rico and Guam remain as US territories.
