Children and adolescents need to experiment with independent thoughts and behaviors as part of maturing and becoming more independent. The way adolescent brains develop explains some of the behavioral changes in preteens and teens. It takes until about age 25 for the areas of the brain that control impulses to reach full development. Preteens and teenagers may be inventive, passionate, sensitive, impulsive, moody, and unpredictable as a result of these brain changes.
