The asthenosphere is like a slow-moving river of molten rock that the crust, broken into different plates, moves on top of.
The asthenosphere is the denser, weaker layer below the lithospheric mantle. It lies between about one hundred kilometers (62 miles) and 410 kilometers (255 miles) under Earth's surface. The temperature and pressure of the asthenosphere are so excessive that rocks soften and partly melt, turning into semi-molten.
The Asthenosphere is made of semi-plastic rock. For the reason that Lithosphere has a lower density, it floats on top of the Asthenosphere much like the manner wherein an iceberg or a block of wood floats on water. The decreased mantle beneath the Asthenosphere is more rigid and less plastic. Under the Mantle is the outer core.
Asthenosphere may go with the flow like a liquid, destroy like a stable, and transmits seismic waves at different rates to the other layers. It may even be liable for earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The asthenosphere sits underneath the lithosphere and forms a part of the top mantle.
