DuBois believed that the "talented tenth" of the black community will emerge to lead the majority of black people by their intellectual achievements. DuBois, in contrast to Washington, believed that white community's equality was of the utmost significance.

- He emphasized on African Americans to be wealthier by improving their education in order to end segregation.

- He believed African Americans should protest for ill treatment and demand for equal rights and opportunities.
- In his views protesting is the option asking for equal rights.
- He believed that whites will never accept black no matter if they are educated or not.
- So for him rather than focusing on economic independence and respectability he suggested working more on the protest part.
