What is Surrealism?
Surrealism is an art style that developed in the 1920s, largely as a response to the horrors of the First World War. It is challenging to pin down a coherent Surrealism art definition because the movement itself resists categorization.

Characteristics of Surrealist art include:

- Art designed to unsettle and transgress boundaries.
- The liberation of thought and language.
- Chance, randomness, and unpredictability.
- The combination of all of these elements produced truly unique and bizarre works of art. Many Surrealist artworks have stood the test of time and remain iconic images of the 20th century because of their unusual and visually arresting qualities.
