  11. Plagiarism refers to using someone's words or ideas as if they were your own, without giving the other person due credit. Two possible ways of avoiding plagiarism are to credit the person in your work and/or by quoting their words, making it clear to whom they belong.

Which word to choose:

  • Questions 1 through 10 require ample knowledge of vocabulary. Let's break down a couple of examples to have an idea of what is expected from us.
  • In sentences 3 and 10, we must choose between "effect" and "affect". Although the two words sound similar, "effect" is a noun and "affect" is a verb. Therefore, we must choose the one that suits the sentence best according to the context.
  • In sentence 7, we must choose between "your" and "you're". "Your" is a possessive adjective. It indicates that something belongs to someone. "You're" is a contraction of "you are", which means it is the subject and verb of a sentence. In this case, the knowledge belongs to someone, which is why we chose "your".

Defining plagiarism:

  • Plagiarism is the action of copying someone else's words, ideas, or even entire work. There are different kinds of plagiarism, such as word-for-word and patchwork plagiarism.
  • It is highly unethical to plagiarize someone's work. We must always credit our sources.
