Hello soysans!
Heterogeneous mixtures and solutions are, well....mixtures.
Solutions are a type of homogeneous mixtures.
Now, what are homogeneous mixtures? Homogeneous mixtures are mixtures that are uniformly spread throughout. They have an even distribution of components. The particles are soluble & too fine to be seen be seen by the naked eye.
On the other hand, heterogeneous mixtures are mixtures that are non-uniformly spread throughout. They have an unequal composition & the particles are big enough to be seen by the naked eye.
Solutions (homogeneous mixtures) & heterogeneous mixtures have a lot of similarities & dissimilarities between them.
Similarities (How are heterogeneous mixtures and solutions the same?) :
- Homogeneous mixtures & heterogeneous mixtures are mixtures, i.e, they are made up of 2 or more particles/components mixed together.
Dissimilarities (How are they different?) :
- Heterogeneous mixtures are non-uniformly scattered while homogeneous mixtures are uniformly scattered.
- Heterogeneous mixtures have huge particles while particles in homogeneous mixtures are very small.
- Heterogeneous mixtures can scatter light (tyndall effect) but homogeneous mixtures cannot.
