From about December 21 until March 21, the northern Hemisphere
is TILTED away from the sun, and it gets winter weather.

That has nothing to do with being nearer or farther from the sun.
It's completely a matter of the tilt, and how directly or indirectly
the sun shines on the ground.

In fact ==>  Around January 5 or so, the Earth is CLOSER to the sun
than at any other time of the year !
