Respuesta :

In order to fulfill the requirements proposed by the assignment, we will write a script containing four characters. These characters will discuss opposing views about a recent news story, citing their sources as we go. The names of said characters will be:

  1. Billy
  2. Sarah
  3. Martin
  4. Josh

Beginning of script:

"RING RING RING!!" blares the alarm.

It is Saturday morning, Josh wakes up after a long night of studying. He turns off the alarm.

Josh: "I can't believe it's already 8 am. I'd better get going or ill be late".

He gets dressed, grabs his bookbag, and walks towards the kitchen to grab an orange on his way out. The TV is playing the local news.

Reporter: "...the child is still in grave condition after contracting a rare disease for which his parents refused to vaccinate. More on this story when we return".

*Commercial plays*

Josh: "Hmm, I just missed it. I'll ask the guys about it later I guess."

Josh leaves.

After a 30 minute walk, he arrives at the library for his study group meeting. As he walks in he notices the rest of the group is already there. His friends Sarah, Martin, and Billy are sitting around a table, there is an empty chair which Josh then occupies.

Josh: "Hey guys, sorry I'm late."

Sarah: "Hey Josh, no worries! ".

Billy: "Yeah man, glad you could make it. We haven't started yet."

Martin is busy on his phone and does not greet Josh.

Josh: "Hey Martin, everything ok?"

Martin glances up, a surprised expression on his face.

Martin: "Oh! Hey Josh, sorry about that. I was reading about those parents on the news. The ones who let their child get sick because they would not vaccinate him. I mean how irresponsible can you get!" Replies Martin, noticeably bothered by the news.

Josh: "Oh yeah I was just meaning to ask about that. I agree it seems pretty irresponsible. Vaccines are absolutely necessary to protect us from all kinds of sickness, especially for children."

Sarah looks interested in the conversation but remains quiet. She is more timid than usual.

Billy: "I can't say I agree guys. I've read all kinds of negative things about what's in vaccines, and how most of it can actually do more harm than good. It's a shame what happened to the kid, but I think the parents did the right thing."

"How can you say something like that! This is the life of a child we're talking about, if he would have just had the vaccine, he would be fine! Where are you even getting this information from?!" exclaims Martin, noticeably upset by Billy's remark.

"I read it in an article online," replies Billy in a low and timid voice, as if wanting to avoid furthering the conversation.

"Actually I've read the exact opposite, is what you read from a reliable source?" asks Josh, "There is a lot of fake news online you know."

"I mean it was a very well-written article posted on social media. I think its information is valid, but I suppose I should do more research before discussing it further" replies Billy. "Actually that reminds me, I've got a research paper due this afternoon, I think ill be going now, See you later guys."

The group says their goodbyes to Billy and continue the conversation.

"I'm not sure Billy really believes what he was saying," states Josh. "I got my information from an article posted on a renowned science website, maybe I should send him the link"

Sarah replies in a low and timid voice: "Actually, could you send it to me as well? I am still undecided about this whole topic and would like to know more."

Martin: "I think that's a great idea, Sarah. The news reports we read every day impact how we form ideas and opinions on those subjects, I think it's important to make sure we are getting our information from reliable sources."

Josh: "Sure thing Sarah, I'll be sure to send it to you when I get home but let's study a bit first."

"Actually, I think ill head over to Billy's house and apologize for my reaction earlier. See you later," says Martin, clearly embarrassed by his unwarranted reaction earlier.

Josh and Sarah say their goodbyes to Martin and begin studying. Leaving the conversation behind for the time being. End of Scene.
