I would try to have a background, where I didn't have much. I would also wear ragged clothes.

Explanation:

It would not make sense if you just stole for no reason, you would have to be stealing for a reson so a backstory of not having much might help.
Have a background and dress the part..(wearing black or a ski mask) dress how thieves are perceived in movies
