A truck can be rented from Company A for ​$130 a day plus ​$0.30 per mile. Company B charges ​$40 a day plus ​$0.60 per mile to rent the same truck. Find the number of miles in a day at which the rental costs for Company A and Company B are the same.

As per given,

For Company A

Charges = $130 a day plus ​$0.30 per mile.

i.e. Total charge = 130+0.30x

For Company B

Charges =​$40 a day plus ​$0.60 per mile

i.e. Total charge =40+0.60x

When the rental cost for both company is same,

40+0.60x=130+0.30x

⇒ 0.60x-0.30x= 130-40

⇒ 0.30x= 90

⇒ x= 90÷0.30

⇒ x=  300

hence,  the number of miles in a day at which the rental costs for Company A and Company B are the same = 300
