In the first chapter of the novel, Percy says "Being a half-bold is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways." How has this proven true? What could have killed Percy so far on his quest? How has he managed to survive thus far?

This was proven true almost immediately with the attack at the top of half blood hill with Percy's mom. He was almost killed, and in the process his mom was thought to have been killed. Medusa could have also killed Percy on his quest, and he managed to survive by using the reflection of his sword to look at her and kill her.
