Individualism is more pronounced in the United States.
Alexis de Tocqueville visited the US in 1831 to study the prison system and how it could be applied to France.
Tocqueville reported in his book "Democracy in America" that the people of the US focused on equality and individualism. He marked how all people have a voice in society and was impressed by this. However, he also warned how individual could lead to a dictatorship of the many. Tocqueville noted that Americans were economically successful as well as devoted to religion because of the focus on individuality. His book informed Europeans on the building of the American nation and provided their image of the new country.
