5 cars because if there are 12 models, and 3 of them are airplanes, than your left with 9. Which means if there is 5 more models of cars than boats, then there are 5 cars because 4 + 5 = 9

Curt has 4 cars because if you add 5 and 3, you get 8, which when you subtract 12 from 8 you get the answer 4.
