During New Imperialism several European countries were competing for influence and power, which is one of the reasons imperialism in Africa was so popular. It was barely colonized at the time. This is the reason it was called the "Scramble for Africa." The second most important reason is economics. New colonies meant new resources, new markets, and new sources of labor. They were also enabled by new technological advancements which made conquering territory much easier. The least important reason was social reasons because compared to the significance of Economic opportunity, Political power, and technology, it had very few benefits that impacted everyone.
