Salts are formed when acids react with bases.

and this reaction is called neutralisation reaction.

e.g. HCl+NaOH=NaCl+H2O.

It is very easy.

Other examples:

H2SO4+Mg(OH)2=MgSO4+2H2O.

There may be some other reactant with acid like u have mentioned above.
