After the British invaded Tibet when the Qing dynasty began to lose its power, the Qing sent Zhao Erfeng to try and integrate Tibet into China. The Qing emissary succeeded in rendering the powers of local Tibetan leaders obsolete and rendering Chinese magistrates to take over their positions in 1909-1910.
