Let's assume

x the greater number
 x-?=500==> ?=x-500 is the smallest.

P(x)=x*(x-500)=x²-500x=x²-2*250+250²-250²=(x-250)²-62500

Vertex is (250,-62500)

If x=250 then x-500=-250
