The aging of the population has affected American society by putting more emphasis on dependency programs and organizations. Medicaid and Medicare are both government funded programs that aid in financial issues for the elderly and disabled. Many would describe the country as 'slowing down,' as it needs to care for more elderly people now. With the increasing abilities of technology and modern medicine, there are more elderly people alive now than ever. In fact, studies show that there are around 606 million people over the age of sixty currently living on Earth. Data patterns show a possible 2 billion by the year 2050. Many elderly live in poverty conditions, and 10% living in absolute poverty. This is because it is harder for elderly people to find jobs due to physical, cognitive, and memory complications.
