Type I error α is the probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when the null hypothesis is actually true.
In the case of this problem, the type I error would be rejecting the null hypothesis, therefore, thinking that the weightlifting bar cannot withstand weights of 800 pounds and less, when it actually can.
